Treating Chronically Traumatized Children
The Sleeping Dogs method.
The second edition (Struik, 2019) Routledge
The Sleeping Dogs method is a treatment to engage resistant and not motivated children into trauma-focused treatment. It consists of tools to analyse the child’s circumstances and possible barriers to treatment. The customised treatment plan consists of practical interventions to overcome the identified barriers, support trauma processing and integration. Sleeping Dogs treatment can consist of work with the child’s biological family, caregivers, residential staff, foster care workers, the child protection worker and therapists. Sessions with the child are reduced to the minimum.
